AVALON, Calif. — October 31, 2026. Street improvement work at Avalon’s Five Corners intersection has required adjustments to the paving schedule, with the city warning of intermittent vehicle restrictions and possible delays in nearby streets.
The city’s updated notice of October 29 states that street grinding began October 23 and that paving is now planned to begin Tuesday, November 3. Crews expect to work approximately 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.. The Avalon Canyon Road and lower Tremont Avenue portion is planned to close after tack coating on November 3 and to be paved November 4. The city’s schedule then calls for opening that portion November 5 and closing Country Club Drive, upper Tremont Avenue and Sumner Avenue at the intersection on November 5–6, with detours via Metropole Avenue, upper Tremont Avenue and Banning Drive.
Why the timetable can change
Avalon depends on island deliveries, and the city specifically warned that the schedule can shift due to barge operations during windy weather and rainy or colder conditions. Announced construction dates are therefore not a guarantee that a road is blocked at a particular hour today.
The city said traffic could experience substantial delays and that temporary access patterns would be communicated as work advanced. Residents should follow current signage and seek the latest city update before assuming a particular route is open.
Why it matters beyond commuters
Local street access affects service providers, delivery vehicles, residents traveling between Avalon Canyon and the central business district and passengers moving toward the waterfront.
As of this article, the countywide public record confirms the work was scheduled; it does not independently establish completion on October 31. Check the city’s current notices or call City Hall for the latest construction sequence.
